European Pond Manifesto published by European Pond Conservation Network May 2008

Ponds are an exceptional freshwater resource and provide a varied habitat for many species including plants, invertebrates and amphibians. Despite this, in some European countries there has been up to a 90% loss of ponds.

Conservation of ponds faces significant challenges but there are also many opportunities to address habitat degradation, species extinction, water resource management and climate change.

The European Pond Conservation Network has published The Pond Manifesto to present the case for conserving European and Mediterranean region ponds and to provide an outline strategy for doing so.
