The Important Areas for Ponds (IAPs) project will identify networks of the most important ponds for biodiversity. This will help to protect ponds by focussing conservation effort on the ones which are most valuable.
IAPs are geographical areas which support significant numbers of High Quality Ponds. Within each Important Area, ponds are classified as either Nationally important (in the UK) or of European importance, according to the species or groups of species that they support.
The Important Areas for Ponds will provide a framework to deliver the Pond Habitat Action Plan through practical conservation action.
