Pond Conservation is led by the Senior Management Team

Dr Jeremy Biggs, Director, Freshwater Policy and Research

Jeremy is an internationally recognised expert in ecology and policy issues of freshwaters, including biological assessment and monitoring.

Penny Williams, Senior Freshwater Ecologist

With a background in ecology, conservation and geology, Penny has worked for Pond Conservation for 20 years as a freshwater ecologist, with particular interest in translating science into practice and making a practical difference to the ecological quality of freshwaters.

Andrew Mitcham, Finance Manager

Andrew has held senior manager roles in finance and general NGO management for over 20 years, including financial management, leading change, outsourcing and contract management.

Pond Conservation staff

Dr Pascale Nicolet, Senior Freshwater Ecologist and Million Ponds Project Manager

Pascale is a Senior Freshwater Ecologist with extensive experience of wetland plant and macroinvertebrate surveys, ecological assessments and monitoring. She currently coordinates the MAVA project in the European Pond Conservation Network.

Rebecca Good, Million Ponds Project Wales Officer

Rebecca joined the team in 2007 to deliver pond creation projects across Wales. Rebecca has a background in ecology, conservation and land management and experience in community engagement and environmental
education.

Becca Cleaver, Million Ponds Project Northern Officer

Becca works on the Million Ponds Project helping people create ponds in Northwest England, Northeast England and Yorkshire & Humber. Becca has worked in freshwater and amphibian conservation, especially great crested newts, for nine years, with a particular focus on delivering biodiversity targets and helping volunteers contribute to biological recording and conservation.

Madeleine Ryan, Million Ponds Project Officer for the Minerals Industry

Madeleine works on the Million Ponds Project assisting aggregates industry stakeholders to create high quality, clean water ponds on their sites by providing best practice information, training courses and site visits. These new ponds will contribute to National and regional Pond Habitat Action Plan targets. Madeleine's previous experience has been in ecology consultancy, working primarily on amphibians, reptiles and mammals. She is also involved voluntary with biological recording in Oxfordshire, particularly for bats and other mammals.

Jo Fever, Office Manager

As the Office Manager, Jo supports all staff; keeping them organised, providing admin support and HR advice. She is also working with the Million Ponds Project team supporting them with all admin requirements.

Julia Vincent, Office Assistant

Julia, also helps all staff with administrative needs, including the busy Million Ponds project team.

Chris Monk, Project Officer for South Yorkshire Ponds Project

Chris works is mapping the location of ponds across South Yorkshire to identify Important Areas for Ponds, see where there are opportunities for further pond construction, carry out pond restoration projects and identify funding opportunities for pond management.

Bob Eades, Freshwater Surveyor, for South Yorkshire Ponds Project

Bob combines his search for ponds in South Yorkshire with providing advice about pond creation.

Associated staff

David Orchard, Ponds Project Officer

Based at Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, David coordinates and manages the amphibian and reptile part of the Million Ponds Project. He will develop and deliver a targeted programme of pond creation and restoration work throughout England and Wales for amphibian and reptile Biodiversity Action Plan priority species.

Contract staff

Rod d'Ayala

Rod carries out specific work for Pond Conservation, such as responding to public enquiries, pond surveys and advising local authorities and others on pond issues, for example planning related issues. Rod also does a wide variety of ecological consultancy work for individuals and organisations, including surveys, management advice, small-scale practical management and pond creation.
