Roger Hyde, Chair of Trustees
Roger’s skills in financial and environmental management were developed through a career in local government, the water industry, environmental regulation (at the National Rivers Authority and Environment Agency) and financial regulation. Roger is an executive director of the management consultancy Enviro-Solve Ltd and a trustee or non-executive director of the Yorkshire Foundation, St William’s Foundation and Yorkshire Water Services Ltd.
Hugh Becker
Hugh is a member of the Northumberland Region Water Framework Directive River Basin District Liaison Panel, representing Pond Conservation and fishery interests; a non-executive director of the North East Community Forest and chairs the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Peatscapes Advisory Board and Upland Hydrology Group. Hugh brings high-level business skills with special experience in the countryside and environmental sector, and knowledge of working with the public, voluntary and private sectors.
Baroness Hilton of Eggardon
Jenny worked for 34 years in the Metropolitan Police, in all ranks to Commander. As a member of the House of Lords since 1991, Jenny is active in cross-party committees including Science and Technology and was Chair of the Environmental Committee of the European Select Committee for three years. Her principal skills are in personnel management and committee work. Jenny has a lifelong interest in wildlife, especially amphibians.
Les Jones OBE, Honorary Treasurer
Les has a background in charity finance and wide experience in general conservation management. He has held senior positions in the National Rivers Authority and the World Wide Fund for Nature. His principal skills are in finance, governance, environmental regulation and all aspects of management. He was awarded the OBE in 1996 for services to conservation and is currently the Treasurer of CHEM Trust, and Honoury Treasurer of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and the Purley Park Trust.
Dr Anne Powell OBE
Anne is a freshwater conservation and fishery ecologist, and was founder and first Chair of Pond Conservation. She has served on the Boards of English Nature and the Environment Agency, Berks Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust, and the Oxfordshire Conservation Forum. In 2001 Anne was awarded an OBE for services to conservation and freshwater fisheries. Anne is currently chair of Cumbria Wildlife Trust and manages FreshwaterLife, a web-based information and data portal for the Freshwater Biological Association.
Dr Steve Head
Steve has a background in ecology, zoology and geology and has managed conservation NGOs for last 12 years. His principal skills are in strategic and financial planning, charity management and governance, engaging partnerships and funders, and writing, public speaking and media work. He has a personal interest in the role of the public in conservation, is a founder member of the National Wildlife Gardening Forum steering group, and is a Trustee of other conservation, arts and museum charities.
Roger Thomas
Roger has been the Chief Executive of CCW for the last 6 years. A biologist by training, he has spent his career in the water industry and environmental management. Before coming to CCW, he was Director of Environment Agency Wales. The main focus of his time at CCW has been on mitigating for, and adapting to, climate change. Roger is also a non-executive director of Arena Network, the business and environment organisation in Wales.
Nigel Greenhalgh
Nigel Greenhalgh is the former Regional Director for the South, Eastern and London region of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV). He has extensive experience in managing volunteers and education programmes for conservation, and has a specialised interest in improving the safety and quality of practical conservation work and promoting good practice in work with community groups.
