Lots of plants and animals are specially adapted to live in ponds. Some of these species are not very common and are protected. Ponds also have been recognised as important habitats for wildlife, under the Pond Habitat Action Plan.
In this section we give you a guide to some of the plants and animals that live in ponds. You'll be able to see some of this wildlife in your garden pond and some in ponds out in the countryside.
You might see some plants that are not native and it is important not to spread these around between ponds.
Take part in the Big Pond Dip and tell us what is living in your school or garden pond!
