Is there any funding for creation schemes?
Many ponds are created by partners and individuals who raise their own funds. We are currently preparing the second round of applications to the Pond Digging Fund for ponds created for BAP Priority species. Funding for clean water pond creation can also be obtained through higher level agri-environmental schemes. A list of other possible funding sources can be found in the advice section of this website.
Pond Digging Fund for BAP species
In association with Biffaward, we have developed a fund to support pond creation for BAP species in England and Wales. Funding from Biffaward will be available in 3 rounds - the 2nd round is open as of 1st October 2009 and will close in February 2010.
The application process is as follows:
1. Read the Guidance Notes and complete an Enquiry Form by January 2011.
2. Return it to your Regional Project Officer or to the National Amphibian and Reptile Ponds Officer (contact details)
3. If your scheme fulfils our criteria and qualifies for Biffaward funding, you will be asked to fill in a Full Application.
A high priority will be given to schemes which:
- Target at BAP species with more restricted distribution (BAP species).
- Propose pond complexes of 5 ponds across a site.
- Offer value for money.
- Are located in strategic locations (e.g. linking existing populations of BAP species or will benefit isolated populations).
- Fulfill all the Million Ponds Project criteria (see Toolkit Factsheet 2)
For further information about the Million Pond Project criteria and eligibility to receive funding through The Pond Digging Fund, please look at the Guidance Notes or contact one of the Project Officers (contact details).
