Survey methods

We need to know how many ponds there are, how good the ponds are for wildlife and where the best ponds are. This will help us to make sure ponds are protected and is a vital part of the Pond Habitat Action Plan.

You can help us by surveying ponds near you, using the Local Pond Survey. This is a modified version of the survey that professional pond surveyors use.

Data from the pond surveys are entered into the National Pond Monitoring Network database. To find details of the methods and download guidance sheets see the National Pond Monitoring Network website.

If you have a pond that you would like us to survey, please contact us.
